Christians believe that Jesus is the son of God, and Atheists don’t believe in God at all, but most people know someone who has tried to change the world for the better and was persecuted for it. Godspell is the true story of one of those people.

Godspell has received many awards, including Broadway.com’s favourite musical revival in 2012.  The 1972 Toronto production launched the careers of many actors, including Victor Garber, Eugene Levy, Andrea Martin, Gilda Radner, Dave Thomas, Martin Short, and the show’s musical director, Paul Shaffer.

In 1977, Godspell won the Tony Award for Best Original Score. The song day by day reached number seven on the Canadian Billboard charts in Canada. Stephen Schwartz, the composer of the musical Wicked, wrote the music for Godspell. The musical is now receiving international fame and recognition on Broadway and in movie theatres everywhere. The 2024 film Wicked, written by Godspell composer Michael Schwartz, is very popular, grossing over $697 million worldwide. It’s the highest-grossing musical film adaptation ever.

Life can be difficult, and each of us goes through periods of pain and suffering at some point in our lives. What if one man could help us see how beautiful life could be? And what if that one man was murdered trying to do that? Godspell is the true story of that one man.
