The Scott MacAulay Performing Arts Centre
Officially opened in July 2018, the Scott MacAulay Performing Arts Centre is a state-of-the-art facility that seats 294 people and is fully accessible. Located at 619 Water St East in beautiful Summerside, Prince Edward Island, the Centre is designed to be functional and flexible, capable of hosting a wide variety of performances, conferences, and meetings. The facility is situated beside the world renowned College of Piping and Celtic Performing Arts of Canada.
The latest technology has been installed at the Scott MacAulay Performing Arts Centre, including a sound system designed using computerized modelling to ensure that every corner of the theatre is covered. This means that no matter where an audience member is seated, they can enjoy great sound and an amazing view.
The theatre features a relatively steep pitch for the seating, guaranteeing that there isn’t a bad seat in the house. The Scott MacAulay Performing Arts Centre offers comfortable air-conditioned theatre seating audience comfort. The theatre is divided into two levels: fixed seating in the upper area and retractable seating in the lower area, which allows for the placement of tables and more for conferences, meetings and other important functions when the seats are retracted.
With its large stage and ample wing space, stand-alone set pieces can be easily moved on and off stage during performances. Through the use of creative lighting, the stage can also be made intimate for smaller events. Additionally, the theatre is equipped with LCD and Laser projectors and a full 16′ by 9′ fixed screen located behind our cyc wall as well as a movable 17′ by 10′ screen with rear projection capability to suit your visual needs.
The centre is named after the legendary Scott MacAulay – read his story below.
Backstage and Studio Features
Backstage, there are two dressing rooms, each equipped with open cubby spaces for hanging costumes and luxury vanities for makeup application. Additionally, backstage features a nearly soundproof studio with a wooden sprung floor, floor-to-ceiling mirrors, and barres. This space serves multiple purposes: it can be used for teaching and warming up, as well as a green room and changing area for larger productions.
Below the lobby of the Scott MacAulay Performing Arts Centre, there are four specially designed rooms: three studio rooms and a recording studio on the lowest level of the building. These spaces are intended for artists to record new albums and podcasts and serve as practice and teaching areas for instructors, students, and the public.
These studio rooms also function as green rooms and “quiet rooms” for larger groups using the facility.
