SUMMARY:Mary Poppins: The Broadway Musical
DESCRIPTION:One of the most popular Disney movies of all time is capturing hearts in a whole new way: as a practically perfect musical! Based on the books by P.L. Travers and the classic Walt Disney film\, Cameron Mackintosh and Disney’s Mary Poppins delighted Broadway audiences for over 2\,500 performances and received nominations for nine Olivier and seven Tony Awards\, including Best Musical. \nThe jack-of-all trades\, Bert\, introduces us to England in 1910 and the troubled Banks family. Young Jane and Michael have sent many a nanny packing before Mary Poppins arrives on their doorstep. Using a combination of magic and common sense\, she must teach the family members how to value each other again. Mary Poppins takes the children on many magical and memorable adventures\, but Jane and Michael aren’t the only ones upon whom she has a profound effect. Even grown-ups can learn a lesson or two from the nanny who advises that “Anything can happen if you let it.” \nMary Poppins is an enchanting mixture of irresistible story\, unforgettable songs\, breathtaking dance numbers\, and astonishing stagecraft. Presented by the 8th Avenue Players\, who previously captivated Island audiences with their performances of Little Women and Godspell. Featuring a large local cast and a live orchestra\, this will be a show you don’t want to miss!

SUMMARY:Ma grande foi de Dieu
»\n\nMa grande foi de Dieu (Oh\, my God!)\nGod loves being close to His children. And so\, for nearly 200 years\, he’s been\nrunning a bar called Les Cinq Pairs (The Five Pairs)— like the playing cards. But\nin true divine fashion\, it’s really a French pun: Le Saint Père (The Holy Father).\nThe bar is a lively spot\, filled with intriguing\, sometimes downright peculiar\ncharacters. Guardian angels Angèle and Marie-Madeleine serve drinks\, while the\nArchangel Gabriel works the door as the bouncer. And presiding over it all is God\nHimself — known here simply as Pape — tending bar with a watchful eye.\nOne of the regulars is Michel\, who has just won the world title of “Smartest\nPerson on Earth.” Brimming with confidence\, he tells Pape that if he were God\,\nhe would do a much better job — fixing every problem in the world with just a\nsnap of his fingers.\nBut be careful what you say in front of Pape… because he’s bold enough to make\nthat wish come true. And when it does\, Michel can only cry out: “Oh\, my God!”

SUMMARY:SHREK THE MUSICAL JR.
DESCRIPTION:Athena Consolidated School STUDENTS’ MUSICAL THEATER PRODUCTION OF  \nSHREK THE MUSICAL JR. \nNasty will be nice and Summerside will be ogre-the-moon when Athena students present their production of Shrek The Musical JR. beginning April 29\, 2026\, it was announced today by Freddie Gershon\, CEO of Music Theatre International (MTI). The family-friendly musical comedy follows the adventures of an ogre named Shrek who sets off on a quest to save a princess from a dragon. However\, it turns out that in order to ultimately succeed\, Shrek must battle an even bigger obstacle: learning how to believe in himself and open his heart to others.    \n“Shrek’s unique story of discovery encourages each of us to examine our prejudices\, review what we believe to be our limitations and work to better understand ourselves and others. The actors and crew in this production have embarked on a similar journey\, as students and teachers with many different interests have learned more about themselves and each other while collaborating towards the common goal of presenting this musical\,” says Gershon. \nShrek The Musical JR. follows an ogre named Shrek who has learned the hard way that “people hate the things they cannot understand.” For many years he has protected himself from the hurtful actions of those who are scared of him by living as a recluse in a cozy cesspit. One day\, his peaceful swamp is disturbed by new tenants: fairytale misfits — including Pinocchio\, the Ugly Duckling\, the Wicked Witch\, Peter Pan\, the Three Pigs and the Big Bad Wolf — have been banished there by the villainous Lord Farquaad. In order to gain back his land\, Shrek makes a deal with Farquaad to rescue the feisty princess Fiona from a tower guarded by a fierce dragon. Setting off with his faithful companion\, Donkey\, Shrek begins the journey of a lifetime filled with adventure\, romance\, and hilarity. \nWith music by Jeanine Tesori\, book and lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire\, Shrek The Musical is based on the Oscar®-winning DreamWorks Animation film and the book Shrek by William Steig. The original Broadway production\, starring Brian d’Arcy James as Shrek and Sutton Foster as Fiona\, ran for twelve months and received a total of twelve Drama Desk Awards and eight Tony Award nominations\, including Best Musical. The musical was adapted to be performed by students by educational musical theatre consultancy firm iTheatrics under the supervision of Timothy Allen McDonald.  \n

SUMMARY:Lettice and Lovage: A Peter Shaffer Comedy!
DESCRIPTION:Seaside Theatre presents Peter Shaffer’s riotous comedy\, Lettice and Lovage.  In this long running West End play\, we meet two characters who at first are at polar opposites: Lettice Douffett\, the flamboyant tour guide who is not above adding some “interesting” facts to her tours\, and staid Lotte Schoen\, her boss who believes that facts are facts\, no matter how boring.  The two nevertheless form an unlikely friendship over a shared disdain for bland modern society\, and together they plot against it\, with unintended results!  A hilarious play with two wonderful roles\, Maggie Smith and Margaret Tyzack earned Tony Awards for playing these characters.\n\nSeaside Theatre Company is PEI’s newest community theatre\, and is based out of the Scott MacAulay Performing Arts Centre in Summerside. The company aims to “build community through theatre” by drawing on the many talents found throughout the Island\, and by presenting a wide variety of theatrical productions for both audiences and participants to experience.\n\nPreviously at Scott MacAulay Performing Arts Centre\, Seaside Theatre has presented Black Comedy\, The 39 Steps\, Dear Jack Dear Louise and The Mousetrap.\n\nYour continued support is greatly appreciated!

SUMMARY:The Ross Family Ceilidh - 20th Anniversary Tour
DESCRIPTION:When quirky\, personable siblings Stephanie\, Johnny\, and Danielle come together as a band\, they are no longer just a family\, no longer just Rosses. They are: the Ross Family. (Cue the cackles).\nBig vocals\, heartfelt nerdy stories\, stylish fiddle sets\, wicked piano\, and fine step-dancing: The fruit of several generations of Ross and Arsenault values\, talents\, languages\, and hardship.\nThe group desires to preserve and play with their centuries-old PEI heritage\, as well as contemporary folk influences. Add in these music lovers’ varied tastes and there lays the foundation for their original music. Songwriting that tends to reflect on how our roots\, our home\, our people shape us.\nEven after twenty years of performance\, the bright stage lights have not blinded the Ross Family from truly seeing those who support and connect with their art. Art that is often described as uplifting and emotionally stirring\, full-circle and full-sounding\, with sincere depth and goofiness. In other words\, love.

SUMMARY:Tunes and Tall Tales: for little ones & their grown-ups
DESCRIPTION:The lovely group of Island storytellers entertain children and families with original musical stories using puppetry with beautiful illustrations delivered via the unique medium of the “crankie”. Their performances are captivating and heartwarming that invite families into a world of imagination and song. Stories & songs for little ones & their grown-ups – Singing\, playing & growing together!\nWe are Tunes and Tales! We believe in creating stories and songs that connect with children and their caregivers\, spark play and imagination\, and simply encourage us to be together. We all met four years ago\, singing around a kitchen table. In that safe space of sharing\, laughs and lots of singing the idea of Tunes and Tales began. Now this little creative project has given us so much in the last few years and we are so grateful we get to share our stories and songs with you. Here is a little more about us:\n– Lucy is our UK-born folk musician who brings a touch of whimsy\, rich harmonies\, and dreamy viola magic.\n– Brie is our theatre performer extraordinaire. Her boundless energy and animation breathes life into every tale we tell.\n– Leah is our music teacher\, songwriter\, and the creative spark behind Tunes and Tales. She still can’t believe she gets to do this with her friends. \nWe create and rehearse in each other’s kitchens with kids underfoot\, lots of laughter\, and not nearly enough actual rehearsal time. Tunes and Tales is our love letter to childhood\, imagination\, and singing together.

SUMMARY:Flu Fighters and Special Guests The Ellis Family Band
DESCRIPTION:Both shows – SOLD OUT!\nMedicine meets music in this entertaining\, heartfelt and cheerful performance by a group of our local doctors in support of the Prince County Hospital.\nAll proceeds from this show go to the Prince County Hospital Foundation.\nThe RETURN of the FLU FIGHTERS!\nThis group of friends and colleagues\, realizing they had common interests in music\, decided to get together to “shake the dust” off some old talents and have fun as a way to relax and manage stress. That was June 2024 and they haven’t looked back. From simple beginnings of one or two songs\, they have steadily built up a surprisingly varied and entertaining repertoire that they love to play. Realizing that they might be able to share some of this music therapy with other colleagues (and provide a much needed morale boost to these friends)\, they went ahead and performed at several gatherings and parties for hospital staff and were a smash hit. From voluntary donations and selling fun band-themed T-shirts\, they also raised money to help support PCH.\nWorking on this theme\, and swallowing their fear of failure and performance for large audiences\, they nervously took their act to the next level and performed to a sold-out crowd here last year. It was so well received\, and such a great fundraiser for PCH\, they are excited to step on stage again. They are quick to joke: “we aren’t good… but we aren’t\nbad!”\nCome down and immerse yourselves in the healthy medicine of music\, and sing along with some favourites performed by some familiar faces as they bare their soul and play their hearts out for their community and their\nhospital.\nDr. John Morash lead vocals\, drums\, and master cowbell\nDr. Tyler MacDonell lead guitar\, drums\, and vocals\nDr. David Antle rhythm guitar\, vocals\, and harmonica\nDr. April MacPhee bass\, ukulele\, and vocals\nDr. Jonathan Sharpe drums\, keyboard\, melodica\, and vocals\nDr. Steven MacNeill guitar\, mandolin\, vocals\nThe Ellis Family Band – Opening Act\n\n\nThe Ellis Family Band (EFB) is from Summerside\, Prince Edward Island and was formed in the 1970s by four brothers and their father\, Russell Ellis\, a fiddle player. Their music influences blend traditional Island fiddle tunes with 1970s and 80s popular music. Bassist Greg MacDonald joined early on and became like a fifth brother.\n\nEFB gained national attention in the 1980s with hits like “Easy To Love”\, “Mother of Mine”\, and “Thank You For Being My Friend” – the latter reaching #1 on the charts. They were nominated for multiple Canadian Country Music Awards and a Juno Award releasing over 15 singles that charted nationally. Despite being offered an international record deal\, they chose to stay rooted in PEI.\nAfter a break in the 1990s\, EFB returned in 2005 performing sold-out shows across PEI and sharing stages with major artists like Reba McIntyre and Paul Brandt. Today\, they perform at special events showcasing their signature harmonies.\n\n\n\n  \n\n
